Enhancing accessibility at Etty Bay

A bigger, better family cabin

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty hidden within Etty Bay without facing barriers. Our mission has always been to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors. With this in mind, Escape Parks, part of the 1EIGHT Group, are thrilled to announce a new accessible cabin for Etty Bay Caravan Park that caters to the diverse needs of our guests.

At Etty Bay Caravan Park, we are committed to continually improving our facilities. We understand that the needs of our guests may vary, and we strive to provide a range of options to accommodate those differences.

Our goal is to create a holiday destination where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to fully enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds us at Etty Bay. We invite all guests, regardless of their abilities, to experience the joy of nature in a comfortable and welcoming environment, where everyone can create lasting memories.

The addition of an accessible accommodation option will help meet the increased demand for high-quality, accessible holiday accommodation and support more visitor spending in the Cassowary Coast Region.

As always, sustainability was top of mind when we approached the refurbishment.

The design was inspired by a fusion of two styles - our existing family cabins and new sustainable container cabins - which came together to craft a new, extra-large family cabin.

The refurbishment project, scheduled to be open for holidaymakers in April 2024, commenced in November 2023. Bookings will open soon.

Work included roofing, external painting, and fabrication and installation of a container extension at the rear of the existing family cabin. The extension incorporates new modern kitchen facilities and a full bathroom with accessible features.

Partial funding for this infrastructure project was delivered through the Queensland Government Accessible Tourism Infrastructure Grant.

Features of our accessible cabin:
  • Wheelchair-Friendly Design: Our accessible accommodations feature wheelchair-friendly design elements, including a ramp and spacious interior, ensuring easy navigation for guests with mobility devices.

  • Accessible Bathrooms: This cabin is equipped with a thoughtfully designed bathroom that prioritises safety, accessibility and convenience with step free shower access.

  • Assistance Devices: The cabin provides the necessary assistance devices such as grab bars, shower chairs, and other amenities that facilitate a comfortable stay.

  • Onsite parking. There is easy, step-free access to the cabin via a ramp from the onsite parking.

  • Clear Pathways: We have worked diligently to ensure that pathways around our accessible accommodations are clear and easily traversable, promoting a seamless experience for all guests.

  • Sleeping for 4: A queen bed and bunk beds to accommodate up to four guests.
